The Inventor

So here's the Inventor who dedicated his life to science, leaving his loved one's behind. The only thing that matters to him is his inventions. That's why they have more colour and detail than the woman at the door. She's leaving to a brighter world, a world without the man she once loved. She had to leave for her own good. The Inventor grew colder and colder every day.
He had won various awards (you can see them in the bookcase) for his work and dedication. His work didn't allow him have a family. That's the price he pays for being a genius.
There are a few mechanisms that remind of clocks (and there's an actual clock too). It's important as it shows that time flies and can't be returned.
